Bridge Advice has taken the initiative to set up Bridge for Homeless, creating an opportunity to collaborate with different companies and fundraise to support individuals experiencing homelessness. In its first year, through Bridge for Homeless, YMCA received €18,000, which led to an increase in both shelter capacity and services rendered, including social support given by social workers, daily meals, showers and laundry facilities.
Increased Shelter Capacity
One of the most significant achievements of this collaboration has been the expansion of the YMCA Drop-in Shelter’s capacity. Thanks to the generous contributions from donors, Bridge for Homeless has helped YMCA increase its daily capacity to 60 individuals. This expansion means that an additional 5,000 people will have access to shelter services over the course of a year.
Sustaining Essential Services
Beyond expanding capacity, Bridge for Homeless is also committed to ensuring the long-term sustainability of YMCA’s vital services. By supporting the organization’s recurring operational expenses, Bridge for Homeless helps maintain and enhance the essential programs that provide shelter, food, and assistance to individuals facing homelessness. This financial support ensures that YMCA can continue its mission without disruption, fostering a stronger and more resilient support system for the community.
Investing in Social Support
Recognizing the importance of holistic assistance, Bridge for Homeless is also playing a crucial role in YMCA’s recruitment of a Social Support Mentor. This initiative aims to strengthen the YMCA’s capacity to offer direct support and guidance to those in need. In just the past six months, YMCA has provided over 900 individual support sessions, highlighting the critical role of mentorship and social services in helping individuals rebuild their lives.
There is no simple solution to address homelessness, but with this financial assistance, YMCA is able to alleviate the suffering of those in need by ensuring food is provided daily, social workers are available to listen and guide those seeking help, and other necessary services.
The sum of €18,000 was donated by Bridge Advice, BOV, Boston Link, RADIX, MDIA, Corpay, Ganado Advocates, Living Sky, Valletta Pay, Liquiditas, NOTO, Multitude Bank, SCENIC, XACE, NM Group, SysPay, The Payments Factory, and Weavr.
